EdTech Meetup – Inspiring Girls to Code – January 22
The Ampersand School is a co-organizer of the Orlando EdTech Meetup group. We hope you will join us Wednesday, January 22 at 7pm at 618 E. South St. Suite 620, Orlando, FL.
The education industry is ripe for disruption by new technology, new innovation, and new passion. The Orlando EdTech Meetup aims to bring together local technologists, teachers, and entrepreneurs who are interested in Educational Technology. We plan to have discussions and presentations with the intention of sharing and learning from each other.
This month, our meetup discussion topic will be centered around the topic of inspiring girls to code. We are excited to have a great speaker – Denise Cruz.
Denise Cruz is a computer education teacher at Robinswood Middle School and the Founder of Inner Potential, a non profit organization dedicated to inspiring underserved and underrepresented youth ages 7-17 to create and invent using technology. Denise has been a great supporter of Ampersand, having participated in our curriculum development workshops.
Denise is also the regional coordinator for Technovation Challengeand will be speaking about the program at the meetup. Technovation is a global technology entrepreneurship program for girls. Through Technovation, young women from all over the world identify and solve problems in their local communities by developing mobile app prototypes and business plans. Ten finalists go to Silicon Valley for the World Pitch competition every Spring. Ampersand will have a team as well as be hosting workshops for teams participating in the program.
Ampersand will be working with Denise and Inner Potential to hold after school, weekend and school break workshops and camps to introduce students to technology in fun and engaging ways. Robotics, Engineering and Computer Programing are some of the topics that our sessions will offer, in co-ed and single sex groups for students ages 5 and up. We will offer student only as well as mommy/daddy & me workshops. We are excited about these offerings which should start in February. If you have special requests or want to get more information, contact Ampersand.
