Nature Play – Day 1

By Posted in - Nature on January 29th, 2014 0 Comments Nature Play, Outdoors, Blue Springs, Manatees

This past wednesday we had our first nature play day with a local nature play group.  We totally love them, and you should definitely check them out!

Our first adventure took us to Blue Springs State Park. It was a cold and rainy day, but the kids were all troopers. As they say, there is no such thing as bad weather, just poorly dressed people.

We explored the park, ate lunch in the pavilion, had some free play in the forest, and then met Pixie. Pixie was rescued as a very young orphaned calf on July 24, 2010. She was found in Daytona in the Halifax River, Volusia County, when she was 110 cm long and weighed 42 lbs, and brought in to SeaWorld in Orlando for medical care. She also spent time in Columbus Zoo to grow and gain weight before being moved to Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa. Pixie was released today and we had a front row seat. We will be tracking Pixie over the next few months.

We can’t wait for all of our wednesday nature play days!
